Bedliner paint peeled after 2 summers — here's the prep I skipped
My 2018 Silverado bed got Rust-Oleum bedliner in spring 2023. By summer 2025, the driver-side quarter was peeling in sheets. The mistake: I skipped acid etching. Just scuffed with 80-grit and painted. Big mistake.
Redid it last October. This time: muriatic acid etch, rinse, dry, scuff, then two coats of bedliner with 24-hour cure between. Eighteen months later, zero peeling. The prep is the product.
If you're doing a bedliner yourself, don't skip the etch. It's $12 at Home Depot and adds 45 minutes. Worth every penny.
