5 years with a bed rug vs a spray-on liner: which one actually protected my Silverado's paint

I kept my 2016 Silverado 1500 for 5 years with a bed rug (plastic-molded carpet) for the first 2, then switched to a Line-X spray-on for the last 3. Same truck, same load (tools, firewood, the occasional gravel bag), two different bed protections. I took photos every 6 months.

The bed rug worked fine year 1. Year 2 I noticed moisture trapped at the four corners — the plastic backing doesn't breathe, and rain that gets underneath stays. By month 24 there were 3 small rust spots where the rug had been sitting on bare metal. I pulled the rug, sanded, primed, and went spray-on. The spray liner never moved, never trapped water, never showed wear. If I had to pick again for a truck I plan to keep 5+ years, spray wins. For a 2-year work truck, bed rug is the math play.
